Sustainability

Nala plays a significant role in the global energy transition and makes an active contribution towards the decarbonisation of energy systems around the world. We support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and continuously seek areas to align our business objectives.

Gender Equality

Nala has non-discrimination policies and requires contractors to have the same. We monitor the gender balance across the organisation and report our gender pay gap to our shareholders.

Clean Water And Sanitation

We monitor water use across our projects and seek to promote opportunities to improve water efficiency.

Affordable and Clean Energy

Nala is at the heart of the deployment of renewable power. We monitor the amount of renewable power we produce, the amount of installed capacity of renewable power, and the number of equivalent homes that our power supplies.

Decent Work and Economic Growth

Nala is committed to supporting high quality employment and we put occupational and community health and safety at the forefront of our operations. We closely monitor health and safety performance at our projects and have a Code of Conduct, that aligns with the eight ILO fundamental conventions, which our contractors must adhere to.

Reduced Inequalities

We are committed to equal opportunity and Nala supports policies and practices which promote this.

Sustainable Cities and Communities

Nala provides clean, renewable power. We seek to reduce the pressure from our projects by being a responsible neighbour in the communities which host them and paying attention to the use of resources.

Responsible Consumption and Production

Nala emphasises product quality and the use of high durability materials, with a focus on longevity. We periodically assess availability and feasibility of end-of-life recycling and disposal options for key component parts.

Climate Action

Our assets are not immune to the impacts of climate change. Nala undertakes a climate risk assessment on each project, using the latest climate modelling. We use adaptation planning to create additional resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards.

Life on Land

Nala seeks to avoid impacts on biodiversity in the first instance, but consideration of this is integrated into the design and operation of all of our projects.

Peace, justice and strong institutions

Nala has clear policies for employees and contractors with respect to bribery and corruption. We conduct background checks on all counterparties and partners with whom we are seeking to do business.

Our Global Responsibilities

Whilst building a global portfolio of renewable energy projects Nala strives to be a responsible owner of assets. This means building and operating our projects in line with the UN Global Compact, the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises, and international good practice for the renewable power sector. Alignment with these standards produces tangible benefits to Nala Renewables, our shareholders and other stakeholders, such as increased stakeholder trust and relations, improved access to markets and capital and cost efficiencies. You can find out more about our commitment to this in our 2023 Sustainability Report.

Policy Adherence

Our commitments for delivering a responsible business are captured in our internal Environment, Social and Governance (“ESG”) Policy which sets out the business relevant sustainability factors, including health, safety and environment (HSE) matters. It explains how that determination of relevancy is made, and the expectations as to how these aspects are to be managed. Adherence to the Policy represents Nala’s commitment to being a responsible investor and supporting a just transition.
